This disc features "Living in Medieval Europe," an approximately 20-minute video program featuring age-appropriate content that explores the Middle Ages.

Oceans provide habitats for millions of marine species and cover more than 70 percent of the Earth's surface. Segments detail seafloor maps, the role of water in our planet's life cycles, three states of matter, and the crucial balance among all life-forms.

Segment 1: Geologic Time (6 min.) Learn how absolute and relative times help scientists examine the Earth's age, as well as prehistoric life forms. Segment 2: Prehistoric Life (4 min.) Discover how fossils are formed and see the clues they give scientists to learn details about prehistoric life and the history of our planet.

Segment 1: (6 min.) Life Cycles - All organisms undergo cycles of life. Learn about the life cycles of several animals, including reproduction. Segment 2: (5 min.) Heredity - Learn about genes and heredity and discover the genetic connection between modern birds and ancient dinosaurs.

Students gain practical tips for managing time during tests, understanding test instructions and overcoming test jitters. Good test preparation throughout the school year is also highlighted, including attending class regularly, reading, doing homework assignments, practicing solid study techniques and staying healthy.

No matter what the topic is, most test questions usually fall into one of five categories: multiple choice, true/false, matching, fill-in-the-blank, and essay. In this program, students discover and demonstrate thoughtful strategies for answering different types of test questions.

Writers, ranging from a sportswriter for a school newspaper to a student working on a research project, demonstrate the processes of developing a focused thesis statement as well as structuring and writing solid introductory, supporting and concluding paragraphs.

This program suggests strategies to help discern the appropriate tone for a piece of writing based on purpose and audience. Student writers, ranging from an avid cyclist on a fundraising campaign for an upcoming school trip to a writer communicating with her fellow club members on the Internet, use formal and informal writing to accomplish their task.

In this program, a young writer must compose a convincing letter to the school news paper to win his classmates' votes for student council, while another writer is challenged to research and write a supporting argument in favor of an issue that she feels strongly against.

Students will explore how society uses the Earth's resources to meet our most basic needs for food, water and shelter, and how those same resources influence how and where we live. Through our use and misuse of technology, students will see how we impact the world around us and conversely, how the forces of the ever-changing Earth shape our lives as well.
