Using the Writing Process

From an initial idea or purpose to a finished piece ready to be shared with an audience, the writing process is a winding and creative road. Every kind of writing and every kind of writer use the stages of the writing process, though not always in the same way or in the same order. In Using the Writing Process, student writers who compose pieces ranging from a travel brochure to a memoir visit and revisit stages of the writing process. They share their prewriting techniques of brainstorming, freewriting and journaling before delving into drafting. Rereading and revising for content, structure and tone is carefully explained, and the importance of peer review is highlighted. And whether or not publishing is their objective, writers proofread and edit their pieces to ensure that their thoughts come across loud and clear!
