Description

This kit is designed for whole group instruction with Kindergarten through 2nd grade classes. Students will measure the speed of two different vehicles as they travel down a track. Students will then compare and synthesize the results.

The lesson was written to address the Next Gen. Science standard K-2-ETS1-3: Analyze data from tests of two objects designed to solve the same problem to compare the strengths and weaknesses of how each performs. The accompanying lesson plan can be found later in this catalog record.

The kit includes the following materials:

  • 4 Makey Makey Circuit Boards
  • 4 USB Wire
  • 28 20” Alligator Clip Wires
  • 1 roll of copper tape
  • Aluminum foil
  • 8 Marbles
  • Hot wheels track: (12) 1' tracks, (12) 9" tracks, (24) blue connectors
  • 8 Matchbox cars

We have provided as much as possible to make the project successful. You can supplement with other maker materials such as cardboard, brass fasteners, paperclips, and other necessary items.

This kit was paid for through a grant from the Harold Hacker Fund for the Advancement of Libraries, sponsored by the Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library and the Rochester Regional Library Council (RRLC).
