Why do people settle where they do? Why do populations move from one place to another? In Human Systems, students will appreciate the role that the physical characteristics of Earth have played in determining where and how people live, and explore the notion that where and how we live has a huge impact on our planet. Students will learn that "location, location, location" was the main factor that determined settlement patterns of the world's first civilizations, influenced immigration trends and sparked the tremendous growth of cities. Also, students will see that, through the study of demographics, we can better plan for the future and gain a greater understanding of the cultural changes associated with our increasingly globalized world.
