A fire fighter explains that he often assists in medical emergencies, not just in fires. At the station he puts on his fire gear explaining the purpose of each piece of clothing and the fire station routines that have been developed for a quick response that saves lives. The ladder truck is examined in detail as Kevin explains how the fire fighters must be very careful never to damage the ladder. Back at the station, other fire fighters are doing their chores and Kevin goes on a shopping trip to the local market as part of his duties as station cook. He recalls his training in the fire fighters' academy and how fire fighting has changed since the days of horse-drawn fire wagons and Dalmatian dogs. In a final sequence, Kevin explains how to prevent fires at home and what to do in case of a fire emergency
